I don't think it is a phrase that is just unique to the Jdubs as I have also heard an Evangelist use that term as referring to their religion.

who made up the words "the truth" .
if this was an invention, they would be millionaires.
being called the truth really sets the statement apart from lets say.....the lies.

read this today on cnn.
the other night there was some catholic scholar referring to the book as being fiction.
i was confused as to whether he was referring to the "da vinci code" or the "bible"?
C'mon folks, chill out; it's just a novel, and a pretty good one at that.
What makes the bible anymore an authoritative book? I think the bible is as much fiction as the DVC. They are both based on oral traditions, stories past from one generation to the next but for some reason the bible is considered "Gospel" truth, not to be questioned? I know some are pushing for the DVC film to have a disclaimer at the beginning stating it is a work of fiction. I think any bible film should also have the same thing. Like Mel Gibson’s Passion of Christ should have a disclaimer saying this is based on fiction and not to be taken literally....

i've had several expereiences with ouija boards, some interesting, some disturbing, and as skeptical as i try to be i have to admit i have seen it personally say things and do things that i can not logically explain.
some say its your sub-conscience, some say its spirits, others say its demons.
i am just wondering if any of you have had experiences with the ouija board, what they were, and what you believe about them, supernatural or just another simple amusement?
I think all those that believe in the power of the Ouija board should take the million dollar challange. If one is so sure of its power it should be easy to win the money.

James Randi has a million dollars in trust for anyone that can prove, in a controlled setting, that the paranormal exists. I think he has had the challenge going now for 20 - 30 years and to date no one has walked away with the money.

regarding iran's nuke program, the evil george bush stood on the sideline and let the europeans do it their way via diplomacy through the u.n. well, iran has basically told them to screw off and has now re-started it's nuke program and seems to have no intention to stop their development of nukes.
this u.n. delegation has now given iran the "eleventh hour warning" which they will laugh at.
soon it will be brought before the u.n. security counsel and a recommendation to impose sanctions against iran will be made and voted upon.
Was the intelligence coming from the same source as the "Weapons of Mass Disappearance" ? Besides the message that Bush and company has sent out to the other "Axis of Evil" nations is, if you don't want to get invaded you better arm yourself.

the oldest manuscripts are not considered the most reliable.. there are no "autograph" texts.
none.. there are no "original" manuscripts.. no two manuscripts agree.. the bible as we know it only came together in the form it now holds because certain men decided it should do so.. neither jesus nor his apostles or disciples carried bibles.. the apostle paul didn't carry a bible and none of his letters were in any of the scrolls considered holy scripture at the time he was preaching and forming christian theology as it is now understood to be.. largely, what the bible is today, is the result of certain men with certain agendas who had the authority to make their project happen.
they also had the power to destroy writings which did not agree with their agenda.
Good read and it is much of what I have gathered by reading over years. The Bible is the biggest scam perpetuated on the human race and yet people to this day are still gullible to believe all the BS.

you guys don't know what you're missing.
now, take the present ashes competition.
england and australia square up to one another with a series of the best of 5 test matches.
I would get more excitement watching paint dry.

i have a cavalier that i fill up maybe once a week (usually less than that actually).
this week i paid .10 more a gallon than last week.
you know how much extra the rise cost me?.
The real issue here is not how much gas is but what fossil fuels are doing to the environment. Also it is time that we look at alternate fuels as it won't be long and we will have exhausted our supply of fossil fuels and we will be forced to look for alternate energy sources. Why not do this now than wait till the last moment to do it.

no real point here, just a funny thought popped in my head as i was reading yet another thread where people were being hammered with scientific facts and theories and i was nodding my head agreeing with the rational fact based explination when a thought occured to me: i take quite a bit of science on "faith".. what i mean is this, when i am reading the explination of particle physics, quantum mechanics, or molecular biology i have to take it on faith as i can't do the mathematical proofs and so on to verify what i am being told and i assume that is the case with most of us non-rocket scientists, and probably even many in the fields of science and technology.
i like science, i enjoy reading discovery magazine and trying to keep up on the latest techno advancements, but i realized how much of it i take on "faith" as i have no way to verify or disprove what i am being told by a scientist.
i recall einstein saying once that something like 6 people in the world truly understood the implications of his work.. so if you want to argue "faith", i'd say that many that believe in science have just as much faith as those that believe in religion.
The difference is a religious belief is based on "blind" faith and a believer will not change that belief no matter what evidence that may be brought out contrary to that belief. Science is based on theories or beliefs back by observation and experimentation. If that theory by observation is proved wrong it is replaced by another theory.
I recall my grandmother telling me bible stories when I was 5 years old and thinking it was a bunch of BS. At 5 years old I had enough intelligence to know it was a load of crap but it was always explained away that you just believed it because it was "Gods" word. Anyway I would rather believe in something I can prove than a book full of myths, legends and superstitions.
